The Royal Canal Phase 2 scheme works to provide high-quality cycle paths, footways, and a linear park stretching from Guild Street to North Strand Road. The scheme forms part of the Royal canal Greenway, which will provide a first class, multipurpose, off-road walking and cycling link from Cloondara on the River Shannon, right through to the River Liffey In Dublin City.
The Royal Canal Phase 2 Newcomen Bridge will serve as a critical piece of infrastructure within the scheme, enabling pedestrians and cyclists to travel from the North Strand Road through to the Seville Place junction unobstructed.
SDG were contacted by Jons Civils in early 2017 requesting a proposal for EN1337 compliant bridge bearings for a large footbridge due to be installed in 2018. We issued an initial price to assist with tender bid for the project and followed up once the project was awarded.
Once live, we maintained close communication with the contactor, superstructure manufacturer, and consultant engineer (ROD).
SDG worked closely with key partner Gumba, and issued a proposal along with calculations for EN1337-3 compliant ‘Pot Bearings’
SDG supplied a total of four bearings, comprised of two guided bearings and two free. Pot bearings are an industry standard for high load transmission, which is achieved through the combination of a non-reinforced natural rubber elastomer, confined within a closed steel housing.
All GUMBA bridge bearings are in accordance with EN1337-3 regulations (CE certified) and are 100% made in Germany hence are precision engineering to the highest standards.
A full set of drawings and design calculations were sent for approval to ensure our proposal was in accordance with the specified design parameters. This ensured that there were no issues with site specified dimensions and gave reassurance for installation.
