PROJECT SUMMARY

Having worked with GD Ceilings on various previous projects, SDG we’re thrilled to provide support to the new Naas Community College project. The new build post primary school comprises 3 floors totaling an area of 10,500m².

The building will provide five new science labs, two multimedia suites, two art rooms and four workshops.

THE CHALLENGE

As with most indoor public spaces, acoustic qualities must be included in the design process to ensure the environment performs as expected. A lack of acoustically absorbent surfaces in a building can

greatly enhance undesirable sound qualities such as reverberation. Close attention much be paid to the finished as to minimise undesirable acoustic properties.

OUR SOLUTION

Working closely with GD Ceilings based on previous collaborations, we supplied the unique Vogl acoustic ceiling system. Along with use of the VoglFuge System Kits, GD ceiling were able to install a fully homogenous jointless system, offering best in class acoustic performance for the schools’ users. The VoglFuge system installs quickly, with utmost reliability in terms of finishing result.

Working closely with Vogl Germany, site we’re provided with design input, close technical assistance, and expert logistic arrangements from Germany.  We also worked closely with the main contractor Ganson, supplying bespoke acoustic panels. SDG provided on-site pre-install guidance on sizing, material, and colour selection which the architect took onboard.

THE RESULTS

With the use of the Vogl System, SDG were able to assist in keeping site program on track though our supply of the system. Having previously worked with the system, GD ceiling were yet again impressed by the simplicity and reliability of installation.

Ganson too remarked on the ease of installation of the supplied acoustic panels.

Good classroom acoustics greatly enhances the experience of teaching and learning in schools. Acoustic design works to reduce vocal strain on teachers and improve the ability of clear sound be transmitted to the students, with limited distortion.
