Case Studies / City Quays 3 - Belfast

SDG worked with Farrans Construction on a Grade A office development in Belfast.

  • CUSTOMER: FARRANS CONSTRUCTION
  • SUB CONTRACTOR: TYRONE FORMWORK

PROJECT:CITY QUAYS 3, BELFAST

Tyrone Formwork are currently the formwork contractor on a 250, 000 square feet grade A office development in Belfast. The full construction project is an estimated £50 million and when completed it will facilitate 2500 workers.

SDG were approached by Tyrone Formwork to assist with the supply of a permanent formwork solution.
Floor slabs are usually 300mm however this job had a requirement of a 1650mm deep slab. Contact was made with SDG to see if we could source a solution to pour without using traditional formwork methods to facilitate a quicker basement slab pour.

SDG sourced recostal® 2000 GT which is permanent formwork allowing Tyrone Formwork to create a construction joint on the slab with a key profile according to Euro Code 2.

About recostal® 2000 GT:
Shuttering units comprised of finely meshed, trapezoidally-profiled, expanded metal, designed for creating construction joints in concrete base slabs.
Units are supplied to specific project-heights on site. recostal® shuttering is also available with anti-leakage material and clamps to eliminate the need to weld rebars.

Benefits include:

  • Self-supporting, systemised method of construction joint support
  • Vastly reduced labour for fixing and removing traditional methods
  • Bespoke to dimensions onsite
  • Stronger joint profile allows reduced rebar
  • Accommodates slabs up to 3000mm

Through the use of the BT turnbuckle on these LIDL store projects it has been possible to reduce the temporary bracing, increase safety and shorten the assembly time for the precast wall elements , it ticks all our the boxes. We are excited to implement it in our future projects.

I spoke to Ciaran Donnelly and after a few subsequent drawings emailed back and forth we agreed on the detail. SDG had the assembly on site within 3 days and saved us a lot of time on site with cutting and welding. We were able to lower the assembly into place in one piece with no concerns. I would most definitely engage in this service again.
